Dr. Dia Cha
Dia Cha, B.A., M.A., Ph.D., Associate Professor of Anthropology and Ethnic Studies at St. Cloud State University (SCSU), St. Cloud, Minnesota, and a Research Associate with the Science Museum of Minnesota has received many national academic and social group awards for the high caliber of her research and her teaching, her service to the community, and her tireless work as a champion of gender and ethnic equality. In 1994, she received both the Outstanding Woman Award at Metropolitan State College (Denver) and the TRIO Achievers Award of the National Council of Educational Opportunity Associations (Chicago). In 2002, she was the Hmong Women's Action Team (St. Paul, Minnesota) recipient of their National Hmong Women's "Courage to Make a Difference" Award. In both 2002 and 2004, she was chosen SCSU's Professor of the Year. She has twice appeared before Congress: first in 1994 before the Committee on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific's Hearing on Indochinese Refugee Issues; and again in 2001 for the Congressional Summit on the Status of Pacific Islander and Southeast Asian Americans in Higher Education.

With a great deal of original research to her credit, she has been widely published; two of her best known books are Hmong American Concepts of Health, Healing, and Conventional Medicine (2003), and Dia's Story Cloth: The Hmong People's Journey to Freedom (1996).

Dr. Mohamed Hassan
Dr. Hassan has trained at the Somali National University and the University of Rome "La Sapienza" where he finished a Gastroenterology Fellowship. In addition, he completed a residency program in Internal Medicine and a Gastroenterology Fellowship at Howard University Hospital in Washington DC. He also completed an advanced fellowship in Hepatology and Liver Transplant Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Hassan became a faculty member as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine-Gastroenterology Division at the University of Minnesota in 2004. His responsibilities include: Endoscopic Services, in-patient consults, and out-patient clinics.

Dr. Hassan is currently a member of ACG, AGA, and AASLD. He received the AASLD Schering Hepatology Fellowship Award in 2003-2004.

Research
Dr. Hassan has special interest in viral hepatitis and liver transplant medicine. He is currently establishing a research project on viral hepatitis in minority communities in the Twin Cities area. He has published articles both in international and national medical journals on viral hepatitis and other related topics in Somalia. He also published in the United States on the topic of hepatitis C in sickle cell patients.

Dr. Napoleon (Lucho) Espejo
Napoleon R. Espejo (aka "Lucho")

Works with refugees, homeless, minorities, migrant workers.

Past experience: Pan American Health Organization, UNICEF, Caritas of Peru.

Dr. Sombath Senethong
Dr. Sombath Senethong earned his M.D. degree from Chiang Mai Medical School, Chiang Mai University,Thailand, in 1966. He completed his Internship Training at Chiang Mai General Hospital in 1967. He did Medical Practice in Laos from 1967 to 1975. He was appointed Medical Director at the Saysetha Hospital, Vientiane, Laos, from 1969 to 1975.

In 1975, Dr. Sombath emigrated to USA after the communist took control of Laos during the Vietnam War. He completed his Pediatric training in 1981 at the Health Science Center, Texas. He was appointed Chief Pediatric Resident of the program.

Importantly, Dr. Sombath was the very first physician from Laos to open medical practice not only in San Diego but also in the USA. It was not until 3 to 4 years later that a few Lao physicians followed.

Dr. Shashikant Sane
Shashikant Sane, M.D., is one of a handful of specialists who were invited to start the Minneapolis Children's Hospital. He helped in planning the institution since 1971 and has been there since it officially opened in Jan 1973. He was chair & Medical Director of the Radiology Department at the Hospital from 1972-1996.

At present he works there full time as seniormost Pediatric Radiologist. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Hospital for 18 years. His roles included member and secretary of the Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Building Committee, Ethics Committee and Chair of the First Strategic & Long Range Planning Committee. Besides, Dr. Sane is Medical Director of the Radiology Department at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare Hospital in St. Paul.

He served as chair, Radiology, American Academy of Pediatrics 1996-2000 and as its Executive Committee Member from 1990-2000. He was President, Society of Chairs of Radiology of Children's Hospitals of North America 1998-2000 and its founding & active member since 1986.

Dr. Sane is an active member of several national & international scientific and academic organizations. He has published over 40 scientific papers and presented innumerable scientific papers. He has been visiting professor several times and given several named lectureships.

In 1978, Dr. Sane was a founding Member of the Hindu Society of Minnesota & the Hindu Mandir. He has served on the Board of Trustees since these institutions began. He has played several roles including Chair in the past 29 years. Dr. Sane served as Chair of the Strategic Planning & Temple Building Committee. Since January 2006, he is chair of the Trustee Executive Council.

He has run Hindu Youth Camps for the Hindu Society over the past 23 years, and has delivered countless philosophical discourses at the Hindu Temple over the past 29 years.

He is happily married to a wonderful human being Kumud who was his medical college classmate and has been his friend over several lifecycles. They have two great children who also happen to be M.D.s and four wonderful grandchildren. The Sane’s are fortunate to be blessed with dear friends and supportive community in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis & St. Paul.
