Saphaothong Komany is a retired school teacher who is only a few months old in Minnesota. In July 2006, he moved with his family from New York to Minnesota because his mother-in-law lives here. Earlier this month, he became a grandfather for the first time.

Besides his first language Lao, Mr. Saphaothong Komany knows Thai, French, and English. He graduated from a French high school in 1962. He completed his B.A. in 1967 at the Police Cadet Academy in Thailand. In 1971, he graduated with a Bachelor of Law at the Institute of Law and Administration in Laos. In 1987, he graduated with a Master of Education at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Mr. Komany started working from 1980, when he arrived in the US until he retired in 2004. Throughout that 24-year period, he taught at Buffalo Public School. He worked full time while attending university.

In 1993, Mr. Komany published In the Clutches of the Red Evil in Lao. The next year, he published a translation of the US Constitution into Lao. He wishes to publish old Lao books for Lao people to maintain their knowledge and appreciation for Lao culture, language, and tradition. His dream is to create a Lao American Heritage Foundation.

He is currently working on an English-Lao Dictionary, college edition. His other projects include an English-Lao Law Dictionary and an English-Lao Medical Dictionary.

She currently works at Hennepin County Medical Center as a nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. Casey also volunteers at the Lao Assistance Center.
